I have seen recently that requirements for old nokia e71, e72 and e63 is still on craze with people in india because we have all gone through with the golden era of these nokia mobiles than. I was a student then and i was not able to purchase these phones. E71 was my dream phone. The hardware design and software still looks great now. You guys wont believe people are still ready to purchase these nokia models now but they are not available. But i suggest you guys to please bring back symbian or android on these phone UI with modern UI environment and it will be a really big hit in india i am sure. At least i am going to purchase it for sure. We all want nokia to flourish again and want to see them again in our hands.
You do not want to start using the software just yet! There are several things you want to do first beforeactivating the GPS. These include configuring the GPS for lowest bandwidth usage abroad, downloading therelevant GPS maps offline, and setting the GPS voice navigation and other properties. Let's do this.
Your smart phone has network access, most likely including 3G and Wi-Fi. 3G can be costly and you don't want touse it. Maps can be several hundred MB of data, which might exceed your bandwidth plan. Furthermore, if you'reabroad, every little byte of extra data will cost you a fortune. Instead, you should download maps using Wi-Fi,possibly when connected to your home network, or use the Nokia Ovi Suite software to manage your phone assets.
Nokia Ovi Suite is availableonly for Windows, so this can be a limiting factor to how you can manage your smart phone. On the other hand, you can run the software on a desktop computer, downloading data at virtually no cost. I won't go into detailsas to how you can use the software, we may have a separate article on that one, we will focus on downloadingthe relevant maps and then copying them to our phone.
Then, the next time you sync your phone, you will have the maps copied. To be able to sync data between thephone and the computer, you may need to install additional software on your Nokia. Again, preferably, downloadthe relevant packages using your machine, then transfer them to your phone.
Now, let us briefly deviate from the GPS stuff to an extremely short session on how you can download softwareand install it on your phone. We will need this information later on when I introduce yet another GPS software.
After you install any needed software for syncing the maps between the Ovi Suite and your phone, let them sync.Your maps will be uploaded to your phone. Remember that there is some space limitations after all. World mapscan easily add up to hundreds of MB, so make sure you have enough space.
This menu allows you to choose when to update you GPS software and maps, like manually, on startup andshutdown, etc. Login information will be required if you want to do that against the Ovi website. You will needto configure your Internet connection accordingly. Not recommended abroad. And that would be all. Let's drive!
I've tested the software in real life, and it works very well. Maps are fairly accurate and the software makesreasonably intelligent choices. The voice choice is wicked. The small screen is clear and visible from 40-50 cmaway.
An important note: when you search for places of interest, make sure you are as detailed as possible. In theOffline mode, the software will look for places only in the vicinity of its last known satellite position, soif you're looking for something 600 km away, you may not find it. But if you specify the city or the country, the searches will be far more successful. This is a small downside of using the program in offline mode, but itcompensates for astronomical cell phones fees abroad.
If you think we're done, you're wrong. Only Dedoimedo provides tutorials so detailed and complete. Not onlyhave I shown you how to use the build-in software, now I'm going to introduce yet another program, in case youdon't like the Ovi software, and we will also learn a little more about installations of packages on Nokiaphones.
So let me tell you about Waze. It's another cool free GPS software, available in many locations and languages. What makes it useful is that any user can send real-time trafficupdates, which makes it for a sort-of community GPS. The program does need network connection to work, though.
That was long and useful. You now have a plenty of options, all free, to drive around without getting lost instrange foreign locations. If you ask me, the built-in software is the preferred choice, especially because ofits offline mode and high customization ability. Plus it works well, its simple to use, it's accurate anddetailed. The overall integration is good, even if you resent having Windows software installed on some kind ofa computer.
My third issue (not a serious complaint) with podcasts: no ability to listen at variable speed. This is a feature made famous on the iPhone, available on Android only recently via third party software, makes it easier to consume podcasts faster.
Nokia has announced today that Ovi Maps application offering free voice-guided car and pedestrian navigation is available for Nokia E71 and E66 devices! New Ovi Maps come with a lot of new core features plus new map data, voice guidance (to be downloaded easily with Nokia Map Loader or Ovi Suite 2 package installed on your PC). The easiest way to get new application is to go to nokia.mobi/maps from you mobile.
Nokia PC Suite is a free management software for Nokia mobile phones developed for Microsoft Windows PC computers and laptops. You can manage your mobile content on a PC desktop screen with Nokia PC Suite. The freeware lets you transfer items between your mobile device and PC.
The developers do not deliver software updates to the platform anymore but you can still download and use Nokia PC Suite for Windows OS. The user interface includes an option to check for the most recent Nokia phone software updates and can press the updater to check the internet for the latest mobile updates.
The E71 is powered by Symbian OS, specifically S60 3rd edition. This version of the Symbian OS is currently the oldest one that can run most of the software that is out there, including applications developed with the new Nokia Qt SDK. This means that if you have a phone with a newer version of the Symbian OS (S60 5th edition or Symbian^3), you should be able to run all the applications that I am going to list here as well.
If all of them disappeared, I would guess that they are written in Java ME. Sometimes all the icons of the Jar apps just vanish from the phone. The solution is to run an app called MIDlet Restorer. You can get it from here: -support/nokia-e71/software Just install and run it. Your games should appear after that.
pls i was updating my Nokia E71 software using my nokia Pcsuit on my PCs. my system shut down automatically when intalling the update, when i on it back, it can no long recongnised my phone again, i need help pls urgently.
ibrash, S60SpotOn allows you to turn on the lcd screen, as well as the led from the camera. If you turn them both on, you will have the brightest light that the e71 can emit. No other software will be better than that, since the hardware is at its maximum.
Just to make sure, do you select PC SUITE on your phone? You need to select it. If the phone is not recognized on your laptop, maybe there is a problem with your USB controller. Try updating the drivers for the USB controller on your laptop. Have you tried with both, the Nokia PC Suite (older), and with the newer Nokia Suite?, they are two different programs. Maybe it will work with one and not with the other. Also, try reinstalling the software as well.
Hello Tanu. Thanks for your comment. I know xplore and nimbuzz, but decided to not put them on the list because I already mentioned similar apps: Y-Browser, and Fring respectively. I did not know core player, but it seems to be a commercial software, and I am listing only free apps here.
I do not know a solution for the problem that you state. Changing your date to 2012 works?, if that is the case, then there is your solution, change the date when you use the app, and when you are finished, change the date again. From what you say, I think there are two options: You can continue using the free apps with the annoyances that they have, or you could pay for using software that works better for you. I do not see the problem of paying for the time of someone else when it saves your time.
I even tried reinstalling the original (latest) update 501.21.001 (and also other backups) and nothing worked. (I know the most recent update is 510.21.009 but the software is saying the first one is the latest available)
Jammy, I am not sure how to help. Try using the nokia store instead. If it fails, you should go to your local nokia care center, or if you are feeling adventurous you may try re flashing the device (which may void your warranty).
Steve, maybe you could try installing apps from the nokia store. If it fails, you should go to your local nokia care center, or if you are feeling adventurous you may try re flashing the device (which may void your warranty).
